Jesus: The Son of God, The Power of God.

Spread the love

“But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God” (1 Corinthians 1:24).

JESUS is the self-Existent Son of God, who inhabits eternity, and incarnated [in the flesh] into the world to be the sinless sacrifice for the world’s sin. God “created all things by Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 3:9), and has set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, far above every name that is named, and has put all things under His feet (Ephesians 1:20-22).

GOD REVEALS THE POWER IN JESUS in the Hebrew origins of His name: “Yehowshuwa (Jehoshua, i.e. Joshua; Jehovah-saved, the LORD is salvation); Yehovah (the supreme, one true God, Jehovah the Eternal, the Immutable, Lord); yasha (saviour, [Christ as] bestowing salvation, to set free, to preserve, to aid, to succor, to give victory, defend, to be freed, preserved, saved, to be helped, to be safe, deliverance from dangers and distresses); yeshuwah (salvation [by God], that which is delivered safe, deliverance, help, welfare, victory).

It is the power of Christ that puts us in our right mind, creates a new creature with no condemnation, washes us clean from sin in His blood, restores our path, heals our wounds, gives us freedom, victory, abundance of peace and truth, more abundant life, eternal life, power and strength, wisdom, and resurrection. Christ is the power by which we overcome all things in this world.

JESUS is salvation. He rescues, makes safe, saves, delivers from the wrath to come, gives us wellbeing. He is the deliverer, liberator, releaser, the Saviour of mankind.

The power of God is described in the Greek word DUNAMIS, translated “power,” meaning: “A miraculous power, force, ability, strength and might, mighty (wonderful) work.” “Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:5).

Christ’s WONDROUS power quickens us: “And you hath He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1). Quicken is from a Greek word meaning: “To (re-) vitalize (enliven, encourage, energize); make alive, give life,” and from the Hebrew, “To live, to revive:—keep (leave, make) alive, give (promise) life, (let, suffer to) live, nourish up, preserve (alive), recover, repair, restore (to life), revive, save (alive, life, lives), be whole.”

To be in Christ is to be made alive in Him, to revive, be given the promise of eternal life and guaranteed of its fulfillment by the God who cannot lie. We are nourished up, preserved alive, recovered, repaired, restored, saved alive, made whole.

By Christ’s power we are justified with God: “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1). (Romans 3:24-30.) Justified (Greek): “To render just or innocent, free, holy, righteous.” Peace (Greek): “To join; prosperity:—one, quietness, rest, set at one again.”

By His power our condemnation for sin is removed: “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit” (Romans 8:1). Condemnation (Greek): “Adverse sentence (the verdict).” Therefore, there is no adverse sentence, no adverse verdict “to them which are in Christ” (John 5:24).

The Son delivers us from the power of darkness: Christ came “To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in Me” (Acts 26:18).

Jesus offers each of us eternal life: “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him” (John 3:36; 6:47). Eternal (Greek): “Perpetual (continuous, uninterrupted, permanent, lasting)—for ever, everlasting; perpetuity (permanence, infinity, time without end).”

The Lamb of God has power to forgive our sins: “In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace” (Ephesians 1:7). (Matthew 9:5-8; Colossians 1:14; 2:13; Mark 2:10; Luke 5:24)

When we repent and set our love on the Son, He makes us a new creature, and we pass from death to life: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17); “He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (John 5:24).

Jesus’ miraculous power can make us children of God: “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” (John 1:12). (Romans 8:15)

Only His power can make us acceptable to God: “According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, To the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He hath made us accepted in the Beloved” (Ephesians 1:4-7).

Christ’s power gives us bold and confident access to God Himself: “According to the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of Him” (Ephesians 3:11-12).

Jesus is the mighty force in resurrection: “And this is the Father’s will which hath sent Me, that of all which He hath given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day (John 6:39-44). (1 Corinthians 15:12-27, 41-57)

He has power over death and hell: “I am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death” (Revelation 1:18).

Christ’s power heals a broken heart: “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3; Isaiah 61:1-3). Healeth (Hebrew): “To mend, to cure, (cause to) heal, repair, make whole.”

Jesus gives us power to overcome all things: “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John 5:5-8). Overcometh (Greek): “To subdue:—conquer, prevail, get the victory; conquest, the means of success:—victory. (John 16:33). In the [dunamis] power of Christ, we overcome all things—sin, idolatry, addictions, fear, brokenness, anger, grief, death and hell. In Him we have success and victory.

Christ’s power works in us: “Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (Ephesians 3:20); “And what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, Which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 1:19-20). (John 14:26; Ephesians 3:7; Philippians 2:13; 1 Thessalonians 2:13)

He gives us strength in hard circumstances: “Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness” (Colossians 1:11). (Ephesians 6:10)

The Son of God sets us free, makes us safe, succors [relieves and comforts] us, avenges, defends, is our Deliverer, helps and preserves us, rescues, brings us salvation, is our Saviour, through whom we get victory. When we repent and place our trust in Christ, and believe in faith the truthfulness of God in His Word, that Christ died for our sins, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day, and sits at the right hand of God (1 Corinthians 15:3-4), we become new creatures in Christ, with His imputed righteousness, and He gives us His Spirit. In His [dunamis] power, we become the sons of God, safe in Him forever.
